Eight Tips on Preparing for Your Couples Photo Shoot

A couples or engagement photo session is an opportunity to celebrate and capture the love and bond with your beloved. It can be exciting and fun but can also seem overwhelming. As a photographer, my job is to help you feel relaxed so that you have a great time and your photos come out FANTASTIC!

Here are some tips to help you prepare:

CHOOSE A MEANINGFUL LOCATION

When picking a location, consider choosing a place that has meaning for both of you or somewhere you enjoy spending time. It can be a park, beach, a local café or downtown. Down by the New Jersey Shore, even the beaches have a different vibe, from intimate and quiet like Deal and Allenhurst beach to more urban and vibrant such as Asbury Park or Pier Village in Long Branch.

CHOOSE OUTFITS THAT REFLECT YOUR PERSONALITY

Before you choose your outfits, consider your location and time of day. For example, if you are heading to the beach, opt for light and airy clothing and bring a change of outfit if you plan to get wet. Coordinate your outfits; you don't have to match exactly, but you should aim for outfits that complement each other. Consider choosing a color palette that you both like and incorporate those colors into your outfits. Stay away from very busy patterns or logos as they can be distracting.

Wear something that makes you feel beautiful but is also comfortable. Choose outfits that flatter your body type and make you feel confident. When you feel good in your clothes, it will show in your photos.

ACCESORIZE

Pay attention to details: Don't forget about accessories like jewelry, shoes, hats or scarves. They can add a nice touch to your outfits and help pull your look together.

CONSIDER PROFESSIONAL HAIR AND MAKEUP

How often do you have the opportunity to capture memories with your partner through photographs? Having your hair and makeup done professionally can give you that extra boost in confidence which will shine through in your photos.

HAVE FUN WITH A PROP

Props are not essential for a couple session but they can add a fun and creative touch. A prop can be anything from a simple bouquet of flowers, a bottle of champagne or a bicycle. A planned surprise for your partner can also add excitement to the shoot.

BRING YOUR PET

Not all locations or photographers are pet friendly so make sure you inquire first. As a People and Pet photographer, Juliana Leschinsky Photography is happy to include your fur baby in your special day!

OPEN UP WITH EACH OTHER AND YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER

One of the most important elements for a successful photo session is effective communication between yourself, your partner, and your photographer. Share your ideas with your photographer on what you would like to bring, share outfits suggestions via text, open up about things that you and your partner like and dislike. The more open you are, the easier it will be for your photographer to create stunning photos.

HAVE FUN!!

It's all about enjoying yourself and each other so that you can have amazing memories to look back on. Take a deep breath, unwind, and let your photographer lead you through the process.
